Today, I'd like to invite you to Pointe-Noire in the Basse-Terre region, for a walk between forest and river. This fun walk takes you over 6 river crossings in a setting of magnificent vegetation. At the end, your efforts are rewarded with a refreshing swim at the foot of charming little waterfalls.
Let's discover the Caillou River!
This easy 3km round trip hike is accessible to all. It takes around 30 minutes to reach the first waterfall. The trail is well signposted on the whole, and the return journey takes the same route. If it's raining, don't set off on a river walk.
As with any trek in the great outdoors, make sure you bring sun cream, a hat and a K-way, plenty of water, and a good pair of gloves.
Appropriate footwear to prevent slipping on wet rocks.
In Pointe-Noire, from the N2, take rue Baudot (D39). After the small bridge, turn right onto chemin de l'îlet and continue to the end of the cul-de-sac. You can park your car there, taking care not to disturb local residents.
The walk starts behind the houses at the far end of the cul-de-sac. Go past the
houses and walk along them to reach the river a few metres further on.
As you continue up the river, you'll discover other waterfalls hidden upstream... Great discoveries in store!
There are many waterfall walks in Basse-Terre, but I strongly recommend this lovely one. It's not very popular, it's easy, and it's a great way to recharge your batteries in the heart of the Guadeloupean forest.
