From lazing on the magnificent coastal beaches to hiking in the heart of lush natural surroundings, your stay in Guadeloupe will leave you with unforgettable memories. Whether you arrive alone, as a couple or with your family, the butterfly island is packed with activities.
On Grande-Terre, you'll find the seaside resorts of Sainte-Anne, Saint-François and Le Gosier, not forgetting the Plage du Souffleur in Port-Louis. They offer magnificent lagoons with turquoise waters and numerous surfing spots that are popular with surfers and other thrill-seekers. Pointe-à-Pitre, with its museums, architecture and street art, will immerse you in the local culture of Guadeloupe.
On Basse-Terre, the atmosphere is wilder. Hiking and diving are on the agenda. You'll discover the island's many waterfalls and beautiful beaches of ochre or black sand. You'll no doubt explore the seabed in the Cousteau reserve, and perhaps try to climb the imposing Soufrière.
The archipelago's smaller islands are also well worth a visit. The authenticity of Marie-Galante, the beauty of Les Saintes, the wildlife of Petite Terre and the wild side of La Désirade. Prepare to be amazed!
There are several options for getting around Guadeloupe:
- car hire, so that you can remain independent and not be restricted in your movements,
- the occasional taxi, because it's still expensive,
- the bus, more economical but not always very reliable in terms of timetables,
- hitchhiking, which is very popular in Guadeloupe and free of charge,
- and the boat to the other islands in the archipelago.
The choice is yours, depending on your budget and your needs!
For you, I suggest you choose something that will remind you of your experience in Guadeloupe, such as a book of West Indian recipes or a decorative object.
Treat your loved ones to coconut-based treats, local fruit jams and spices.
You can also opt for local handicrafts, or beauty products made from coconut or avocado oil. What about madras tea towels? They have the advantage of being easy to carry on the plane!
If you wish to bring rum* in your luggage, please note that you are limited to 10 litres per person and that it must be carried in your hold luggage.
*Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health and should be consumed in moderation.
